Online Classic Car Valuations

Insurance • Market • NOVA • Probate

With over thirty years of professional independent valuation experience, including ten years as Editor of Glass’s Guide to Older Cars and Modern Classics and many years serving the UK divorce and civil courts as an expert witness, I am the valuations expert that insurers, lenders and solicitors come to for specialist valuation advice and to support them in court. None of my work is done by artificial intelligence or data scraping; every valuation is done individually per client.

As the only independent classic car and motorcycle valuer approved by insurers including Adrian Flux, Classicline, Bikesure, Sterling Insurance, Footman James, Lockton and REIS Motorsport Insurance, my bespoke classic car valuation reports account for your vehicle’s history, specification (including any modifications) and current condition. They give the peace of mind required when a valuation at eBay disposal prices is simply not good enough.

Why commission a bespoke agreed market value report for insurance?

Most classic car insurers offer a classic car valuation service based on auction prices for average classic cars in unmodified condition.

For cars that are out of the norm: either super rare, very low mileage, above average condition, or modified and upgraded beyond what is typically seen on the market, I offer a bespoke agree market valuation report that accounts for your vehicle’s unique qualities. As insurers will only cover for market value and not the full cost to recreate the vehicle from scratch, I do not value at the rebuild cost. That said, a percentage of replacement can be a factor in many valuations.

What does it cost and what does it include?

My highly detailed independent agreed insurance valuation reports are valid for two years.

  • Insurance valuation reports for vehicles of up to £100k in value start from £55. See the form below for more details.
  • Insurance valuation reports for vehicles of over £100k come under my concierge service. Contact me for more details.
  • HMRC NOVA and Probate Valuations for cars up to £100k in value cost £80 each.

All valuation reports are compiled by me in person and your valuation is bespoke to your vehicle. My reports include:

  • A VDI Car Check detailing any previous history of theft, insurance damage, mileage and MOT history
  • A detailed overview of current classic car market price trends
  • Model-specific history and points of note
  • Details of the subject vehicle and its provenance
  • A look at market activity and prices in context
  • A bespoke valuation based on your car’s unique features and market appeal

You do not need to be a club member to use my unique online service, albeit some clubs get a discount. An in-house condition report form from your insurers is not required with my signed valuations. All data is confidential: Specialist Car Valuations is ICO registered and will never share your details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cars do you value?

I have supplied valuation reports for everything from pre-war Derby Bentley models to the very latest supercars in need of agreed insurance valuations to cover huge speculator/resale premiums. Rare or modified cars sometimes take slightly longer, as more research is involved.

Where does your information come from?

I use a wide range of sources when researching valuations. The results are typically weighted depending on the source and the purpose of the valuation. There is also an element of adjustment when observations are drawn for vehicles with differing mileages, conditions etc.

Do you value cars in person?

I personally inspect over 100 vehicles every year for valuation purposes. Although I am based in the centre of England on the Oxfordshire/Northants border, I have travelled all over the UK and Europe looking at cars. It is not always necessary to inspect a vehicle in person to value it – I recently used Facetime to inspect a classic Jeep in the Balearics for a divorce valuation.

Why are your online valuations not suitable for litigation?

Court valuation reports must conform to a set format and carry certain declarations. As I am working for the judge, they involve more detailed research and will run to many thousands of words. While the same experience and skillset goes into all of my reports, Court reports are completely different to my online valuations. I do not support online valuations for Court use.
