If you’re a private seller in the UK, eBay has some exciting updates that could change the way you sell. As of the 1st of October this year, eBay has introduced free selling for private sellers across most categories (with the exception of vehicles), making it easier and more cost-effective to list and sell your items. With several other updates that improve the overall selling experience, eBay is streamlining the process, offering sellers more control, and introducing new features to make the whole process smoother.

Here’s a breakdown of the key changes and what they mean for you.

Free Selling on eBay

One of the most significant updates is the removal of transaction fees for private sellers in the UK. This applies to new and existing listings, making it easier than ever to turn your pre-loved or unused items into cash without worrying about fees without you realising. Listing fees still apply, but only if you’re listing over 300 items per month. You’ll now receive 300 free listings per month, which allows you to list more items without incurring additional costs.

Optional add-ons like promoting your listing or selling internationally will still have fees attached.

Introducing eBay Balance

Another big change coming to eBay is the introduction of eBay Balance, which will roll out on 16 October 2024. This new feature allows you to manage your funds directly on eBay, using your sales balance to shop, pay for delivery labels, or promote future listings.

With eBay Balance, you’ll no longer have set schedules for payouts, such as daily, weekly, or monthly. Instead, your funds will remain in your eBay Balance until you choose to withdraw them to your bank account.

Simple Delivery

eBay is also introducing a more convenient and protected way to ship your items with Simple Delivery. With this new option, eBay will select the best delivery service for your item during the listing process. When the item sells, you simply use a prepaid shipping label that eBay provides, and the delivery will be tracked and insured.

Easier and Safer Local Selling

For those who prefer selling locally, eBay has introduced some new features to improve the experience. Now, when you list an item, you can choose to offer local collection, delivery, or both. If a buyer opts for local collection, you can use eBay’s chat feature to arrange the details, eliminating the need for external communication.

To ensure security during local pick-ups, eBay has introduced a unique QR code or six-digit confirmation code. Once the buyer arrives to collect the item, they’ll provide this code to confirm the collection, and you can rest assured knowing your money is safely held by eBay.

What This Means for Sellers

Overall, these updates make eBay a more attractive platform for UK private sellers. Free selling across most categories, streamlined delivery options, and enhanced local selling features all work together to make the process easier, safer, and more profitable.

Whether you’re a seasoned seller or just starting out, now is a great time to explore eBay’s new features and take advantage of the free listings and improved selling experience.
